Friday, aka: Day 5, started off really well. I did half an hour of cardio, dancing around the living room like a crazed lunatic with my daughter. Later we did our Mommy and Me Anti Gravity Yoga. I know, if you know what AGY is, or have seen it done, it sounds almost impossible to add a toddler into the mix. Darlene and her capable staff do it very well. Usually my daughter becomes a weight in the hammock to help me with my stretches. (YIKES!) The times she is out of the hammock she is supposed to be helping mommy with her exercises but, is usually running around with the other children. Friday was good.
It's Saturday that got me. It began going down hill when I had Pizza Hut for breakfast. Not the best start. A trip to Costco did not help the situation at all. Especially the day before the Super Bowl. They had samples EVERYWHERE. Not a one of them was good for me or low in carbs. They were DELICIOUS, but terrible. I crashed off a cliff when I came to the chocolate cake samples. I am ashamed to admit I went back three times. Then purchased a cake for home. (Everything at Costco is huge. You can just imagine the size of the chocolate cake. It reminds me of the cake Trunchbull is eating in the movie Matilda. Four layers of chocolate separated by semi-sweet chocolate icing, then rolled in dark chocolate shavings. Soooo gooooooood!)
Sunday, sunday, sunday. I am sorry to say not much better than Saturday. I fasted in the morning only to finish the night with more chocolate cake (there is still half a cake. I will resist!) and some pumpkin ice cream.
My sister has been diligent about not eating sweets except on the weekend. I had decided at the beginning of this venture that I would try that too. It seems the problem with this is that on the weekend I decided not just to eat sweets but to ONLY eat sweets. I am going to have to come up with a different way of thinking. I did find a book called "Cook Yourself Thin" promising I can "have my cake and eat it too". I am going to add that and see if it and Jillian can give me the bod I am dreaming of.
Wish me luck for the coming week. With half a chocolate cake still sitting on the table I am going to need it.

Recipes
Trying to be healthy is not easy or delicious, usually. I tried a recipe for lunch yesterday that I loved! I am going to share it with you.
Please if you find any great healthy recipes let me know.
Lunch yesterday:
1/2 Chicken Breast, baked in Italian dressing the night before.
1 Carrot
2 Heads of Broccoli
Handful of grape tomatoes
1/2 Zucchini
1 Clove of Garlic
Dash Red Pepper
Pinch Basil, Oregano, Thyme
1oz Whole Grain Penne
Chop the carrot, broccoli, tomatoes and Zucchini put into a saute pan with two tablespoons water on medium heat and cover. Mince the garlic and add to pan along with red pepper and seasonings. Re-Cover. Let it steam until the veggies are nice and tender.
Meanwhile boil the pasta. Dice the chicken.
Once everything is cooked mix it all together with the pasta and chicken. Sprinkle with just a bit of parmesan cheese. Enjoy.

She almost got me this time.
Sorry to leave you hanging for a couple days.
Day 3 of this experiment I cheated and weighed myself. I had lost three pounds already! That energized me so much I believed I could do anything and decided to do 4 circuits, warm-up and cool down on Jill-Jill's DVD.
OOOOOWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW-CH! I really mean that. OUCH!
I did manage to almost not take a break every five minutes. She gets you doing these exercises and tells you that "you just have to keep trying, you don't know how strong you really are until you try".
Jill-Jill, I know I am not strong enough (yet) to do oblique twists, mountain climbers, pike crunches, jumping jacks, REPEAT. Then move on the harder circuits. Ow!
After I finished I did a tiny round of Denise Austin Yoga just for the stretches. It helped a little as I was able to move that night and the next morning.
Day 4: I gave Jill-Jill a rest and went to Anti Gravity Yoga. I highly recommend this to ALL. I go to a little place called Imagination Place in Salt Lake City. Their staff is awesome in that they will work with you while you are doing the workout. Yesterday the teacher could see I, and another girl were struggling with the upside down push up crunches (I am sure there is a technical name for them, no idea what it is) so the teacher, while still giving us a great workout eased up on us.
It is NOT an easy class but it is so addicting. I think my need to prove to myself and others that "I can do anything you can do better" keeps me going back.
I will master the angel roll!
I am trying to work out a coupon deal with them so if you mention my website you get a discount. I'll let you know as soon as that happens, but the first class is only $10 so you can go and try it and see if you like it without breaking the bank. It's also nice because you don't have to sign up for a package. You can, but you can also pay class by class. They offer child care and have classes everyday of the week.
Check it out:
Just look for the Anti Gravity Yoga sign.
Day 5: Is just starting. I will write more about that later. ;)

"Put Intention Into Every Move"
...Like I have a choice, Jillian! Ever since you got a hold of me I have to think about everything I do. Weigh every choice, "Is it worth it to go and get that snack?" I must ask myself these questions everytime because I am SORE!
I gotta say though, Jill-Jill really gets you working every muscle (you never knew you had). It's hard not to get a little discouraged when on screen, these spritely girls are doing jumping jacks and landing light as a feather, while with every jack I do the TV threatens to fall off the entertainment center. I'm pretty sure the neighbors hate me.

In the beginning..
As a disclaimer, right here and now, I would like to explain that this website is, very unfortunately, NOT endorsed by Jillian Michaels or The Biggest Loser et al. This is just me trying to lose weight.
Now as I have promised, the beginning of the story.
As with most things, the beginning of this story starts at the end of another one.
A dear friend started losing weight with the HCG diet. I was full of judgement mixed with a slight bit of envy (let's be honest, they are pricey and there is no way I could afford that diet). I decided that I could lose weight the old fashioned way. I started half heartedly eating better, until it was time for dessert, and getting more exercise by climbing up and down the stairs a couple more times a day. I was sure that, even though I wasn't measuring the results, they were there. I just knew my waist was slimming and I had so much more energy. I kept meaning to do better and make more effort. THE FINAL STRAW: when I tried on jeans that should have been way too big and I couldn't zip them up. Let's be honest, I could barely get them over my thighs. They should have been huge!!! It was all very annoying. I threw the jeans down on the floor, (and did NOT return them to their hanger) and walked over to the DVD section in an attempt to find the golden ticket of weight loss. Of all the DVD's Jillian promised me that she could make me lose 5 pounds a week, banish fat and boost my metabolism.
We shall see.
I will also be working with some Crunch DVD's. They are from Crunch gyms, I think in New York, I wouldn't know for sure because they are also NOT endorsing my work. (Selfish!) And my all time favorite Denise Austin. (At the risk of sounding broken-record-ish. Neither is Denise endorsing this weight loss experiment).
I will post numbers of my losses, but for the sake of the little pride I have left, not the beginning numbers.
May I just say to any up and coming fitness gurus, try to remember that you are making Work-Out-At-Home-Exercize-DVD's for those of us who are NOT physically fit enough to work out in public. Why do you expect us to be able to jump and squat and upper-cut and plie like those thin, trim girls you hire to stand behind you. Are they supposed to be inspiring? Am I supposed to work harder because they can throw their knees above their heads, bend and twist and are showing their pelvic bones as if they wanted to be the next Brittany Spears? Ugh! Of course, I understand that had they hired "normal" girls to do the work out...well, I'm sure the results wouldn't be the same. Happy medium? Anyone?
I have decided, after the first attempt at working with Jill-Jill, as I will lovingly refer to her from now on, that she is a homicidal exercise nut job!
We began our journey together with some "warm-ups"...feeling good. The first "circuit" as she refers to them, I pulled a hamstring. I had to stop half way through and remind myself why the h*@l I was doing this. But thanks to Jill-Jill's encouraging, "come on, I don't want you giving up. If you want to see change you have to work hard" I kept going. The DVD is made up of a 5 minute warm up, 6, 7 minute circuits and a cool down. I "made it through" 4 of the 6 circuits. Somewhere between the 180 jump turns and the jack squats is when I realized that Jillian Michaels was not here to make me thin. She was trying to kill me!
I have often been the one to back down from a challenge but, since I have goals this time I will do battle again, at least for one more day.
You haven't seen the last of me Jill-Jill!!!
